Philanthropic Guarantors
The cornerstone of our model is our philanthropic guarantors. These guarantors are high-net-worth individuals, foundations and other organizations that support Xseed Impact’s mission. Philanthropic loan guarantees are an extremely efficient way for these supporters to maximize the the impact of their generosity. Guarantors take on a portion of the risk of a default in our portfolio of loans to social enterprises. This allows Xseed Impact to access affordable and flexible financing, then pass on these savings to borrowers in developing countries. By taking on a portion of the risk, philanthropic guarantors unlock significant capital for international development.
Lenders
With the backing of philanthropic guarantees, Xseed Impact borrows from banks, credit unions and other financial institutions to fund its investments. These lenders partner with us because of their support for Xseed Impact’s mission, the financial sustainability of our operations and their confidence in the philanthropic guarantee model.
Borrowing Organizations
We provide debt financing to social enterprises and other organizations that improve the livelihoods of low-income and underserved people, particularly women, in developing countries. These investments are in the areas of financial inclusion, small business development, agri-food/agroforestry and climate technology. Xseed Impact lends to organizations across Africa, Asia and Latin America. All borrowing organizations pass our triple-bottom-line due diligence process, looking at their social, environmental and financial performance.
Social and Environmental Objectives
Our investment program is built around the ultimate objectives of:
- Reducing the number of people living in poverty
- Increasing food security
- Greater gender equality
- Increasing productive employment and decent work
- Reducing the effects of climate change and increasing resilience to its consequences
We set targets for each investment that further these objectives and monitor results to maximize impact.
